Robert A. Levine

Assistant Casting Director

Robert A. Levine is an assistant casting director and production consultant at Justin Souriau-Levine Studios.

Mr. Levine is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Publicists Guild and the Writers Guild of America.

Throughout his illustrious fifty year Hollywood career, Mr. Levine has worked as a Screenwriter, Unit Publicist, Project Director, EPK Interviewer, Field Producer, Film Historian, Marketing Consultant and University Guest Instructor for Film.

Mr. Levine graduated Cum Laude from Union College in 1971, having majored in English. He then went on attend New York University’s Graduate School of Cinema Studies, where he intensely studied film.

He started out his film career thereafter as a reporter and film critic for the acclaimed film magazine “Variety”, and later became an editorial associate for “Show Magazine”, in addition to being the editor of “Script Writer Magazine”.

After deciding to permanently switch his focus to screenwriting, Mr. Levine wrote dozens of screenplays over the course of five years, with successful writers such as Lem Dobbs, Deborah Baron etc... and on his own. During his time as a screenwriter, he managed to sell seven screenplays to major production companies; two of them entered production.

During his time as a screenwriter, Mr. Levine worked with the Academy of Motion Picture and Sciences to organize the world famous Oscar night for several years.

As he entered his thirties, Mr. Levine transitioned to becoming a project director on major feature films; and subsequently worked on “China Syndrome” (1979), “Tess” (1979) and “Blue Lagoon” (1980), in that line of work.

He then worked with Columbia Pictures as Vice President of Publicity, overseeing feature films such as “Absence of Malice” (1981), Das Boot (1981), “Stripes” (1981), “Ghandi” (1982) and “Tootsie” (1982).

Upon joining 20th Century Fox, Mr. Levine worked on the cult classic “Romancing the Stone” (1983) as an additional publicity director and unit publicist.

He then became the Vice-President of Marketing and thereafter a Publicity Development Executive at Interscope Communications, and worked exclusively for them for a couple of years (1984-1986).

Mr. Levine then transitioned back to screenwriting, whilst being an independent producer from 1986-1990; and went on to strike deals at major studios such as Warner Brothers, MGM and United Artists.

In the early 90’s, Mr. Levine transitioned back to publicity as he joined the Rogers & Cowan publicity firm; working straightaway thereafter on “Kafka” (1991).

In 1994, Mr. Levine decided to go independent; as a freelance Unit Publicist. In the last three decades, he has worked on over thirty films with major studios. His credits as a Unit Publicist include “The Negotiator” (1988), Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1997), “The Siege” (1998), “Snake Eyes” (1998), Kiss the Girls (1997), “High Crimes” (2001), “Shallow Hal” (2001), Runaway Jury (2003), “Assault on Precinct 13” (2005), “Meet the Spartans” (2008), Sex Drive” (2008), “The Mechanic” (2011) and “Dead Man Down” (2013) among others.

Throughout his career, Mr. Levine has worked with some of the world’s most acclaimed directors such as Jane Campion, Steven Soderbergh, P.J. Hogan, Robert Zemeckis, Rob Reiner and Bill Condon. He has also worked closely with some of the most famous actors on the planet such as Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Natalie Portman, Michael Douglas, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Harrison Ford, Ashely Judd, Annette Bening, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jane Fonda, Glenda Jackson, Colin Farrell, Channing Tatum, Isabelle Huppert, Hera Hilmar, Emmy Rossum, Mark Ruffalo, Ethan Hawk, Matthew Broderick, Nicole Kidman, Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel Jackson; among others.

In the last decade, Mr. Levine has guest lectured multiple times at the Tisch School of the Arts of New York University, speaking mainly about film history and publicity.

As an assistant casting director for Justin Souriau-Levine Studios, he works closely with Mr. Souriau-Levine during both the pre-selection of actors and the meticulous auditioning process. Mr. Levine also works as a production consultant for the company; he advices Mr. Souriau-Levine and his primary team on production related topics, utilizing his vast amount of experience in the film industry.

Recently, Mr. Levine played an integral part in the casting of Justin Souriau-Levine Studios’ upcoming feature film “Back to the Present!” (2024) as an assistant casting director, alongside Emily Hobbs and Erin Gorski.

As an actor, he made his debut in Justin Souriau-Levine Studios’ inaugural feature film “The Greatest Race” (2021) as Master Armando, the leader of the Villains Team. He then played the role of Fred, an old astronaut who had been stuck in a black hole for over thirty years in “Planet of the Astronauts” (2022), the company’s latest feature.
